Discover the Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s premier safari destination, renowned for its spectacular endless plains and extraordinary abundance of wildlife. The park is home to a diverse range of species, including Africa’s iconic predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas. The Serengeti is best known for the world-famous Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the most remarkable natural events on Earth. Each year, more than 1.5 million wildebeest, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, travel in a continuous clockwise cycle between the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve. This incredible journey covers approximately 1,000 kilometres annually as the herds follow seasonal rainfall in search of fresh grazing lands.

A key highlight of this migration is the calving season in the Ndutu Plains, located in the southern Serengeti ecosystem within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From December to March, the plains become the primary breeding ground for the migrating herds, with thousands of wildebeest calves born each day. This period attracts a high concentration of predators, creating exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities.

One of the most unforgettable safari experiences in northern Tanzania is witnessing the Great Wildebeest Migration. This spectacular natural event involves millions of wildebeest, accompanied by zebras and gazelles, moving across the endless plains in search of fresh grazing and water.

The migration is a continuous cycle driven by seasonal rainfall, and herds often travel through the Serengeti ecosystem, including the Serengeti National Park and surrounding conservation areas. Along the journey, the animals face numerous challenges, especially during river crossings where they must navigate strong currents and avoid crocodile-infested waters.

A hot air balloon safari is one of the most exclusive and unforgettable experiences in Serengeti National Park. It offers a breathtaking aerial view of the vast savannah at sunrise, when the landscape is bathed in soft golden light and wildlife is most active.

Visitors gently float above the endless plains, gaining a unique perspective of the ecosystem below. From the sky, it is possible to spot large herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, and giraffes moving across the grasslands, along with predators such as lions silently roaming their territories. The silence of the flight, combined with the sweeping views, creates a truly magical safari moment.

Serengeti National Park is a paradise for bird enthusiasts, hosting over 500 recorded bird species across its diverse ecosystems. The park’s vast savannahs, woodlands, wetlands, and riverine areas create ideal habitats for both resident and migratory birds throughout the year.

Visitors can observe a wide variety of impressive species, including large ground birds such as ostriches and kori bustards, as well as powerful birds of prey like eagles, hawks, and vultures soaring above the plains. Wetland and seasonal water areas attract flamingos, storks, herons, and pelicans, adding vibrant life to the landscape.
